TOPIC: HOW TO KNOW GOD’S WILL FOR YOUR LIFE – PART 1

Following God’s plan for our life requires more than just a wish. It takes a conscious effort to know, pursue and fulfill God’s plan for one’s life. No dreams will fulfill itself. If we do nothing about open vision from God or the one angel came to deliver, it will only end up a daydream.
Some areas of our lives where we must carefully consider God’s will;

1. THE PURPOSE OF LIVING: Jer. 1:4-5.

God doesn’t create anyone without a purpose. It is good to seek early what God desires we do or accomplish in life before our departure. Some are called to be doctors, some engineers, some teachers, some businessperson, some preachers, etc. Seek to know where you belong and ask for the grace to pursue it diligently. It is only in the territory that God has assigned for you that you can find fulfillment. You can’t be a terror in your territory but struggling where you have not been called to be will make you a frustrated and confused person. Seek to know where best you belong.

2. IN YOUR RELATIONSHIPS:

This can either be marital, social, or spiritual relationships. We must understand that sometimes people break away from us not because they wish but because God has answered our prayers. Our association will surely determine our destination. Mike Murdock says, “Where you will be in five years time will be determined by the books you read and people you move with”. I agree with him.

Check your relationship, is it developing you or weighing you down? A broken relationship many times is better than a bad end. It is important to note that many friends are there in your life to slow down your progress. Time wasters, wrong advisers, seducers, and sin activators must go if we are to stand in God’s perfect will. Until brother Lot was separated from Abraham, Abraham never entered God’s perfect will for his life. Immediately Lot took a different path, God says,

“And the Lord said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, life up “NOW” thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward”

Bad company corrupts good manners. Our relationship with the opposite sex likewise needs to be in purity. Apostle Paul encourages the church to take young women as sisters with all purity -1 Tim. 5:2. God has a perfect will for you in marriage. Ps 25:9 tells us that God teaches those who fear Him the way they shall choose. Also, be sure God is in your relationship. Don’t lean on your own understanding but acknowledge God- Prov. 3:5-6.

You see, there are times that God’s will forbids you from being close to the opposite sex. Many people think it is a sin if they see their Christian brothers playing freely with the opposite sex and they don’t have such promptness. The truth remains God may be dealing with you based on your weakness so that you will not be prone to things or touches that can send you back to your vomits.

3. TRIALS AND TEMPTATION:

In 1 Pet.4:19, the bible says;

“Wherefore, let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to Him in well-doing, as unto the faithful creator.”

You see, sometimes sufferings can be the will of God for a while. You have learned humility in whatever way God has chosen. If some of us are not down before, we wouldn’t know what it means to be down and won’t even help those who are down.

Also in 1 Pet. 5:10, the bible says;

But the God of all grace, who has called us unto His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have SUFFERED A WHILE, make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle you.

From the verse, we see that God will try us before He will entrust us with some things. David was tried before the throne, Potiphar’s wife tried Joseph, Abraham was tried by God’s request for Isaac, the cross tried Jesus, Daniel was tried with hungry lions, Shadrack, Meshach, and Abednego were tried by the fiery furnace. Our own will not be different.

In Romans 8:18, the bible says,

For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

Tough times don’t last forever, be hopeful.

4. IN OUR PRAYER LIFE: Romans 8:26-27

It is not enough to pray but better to pray according to God’s will. It is only through the help of the Holy Spirit that we can know the will of God in prayer. With our human understanding, we are bound to be selfish in prayer. This is why we must acknowledge him and seek his help in prayers. We are not to pray to him but to help us to know and pray according to God’s will. No man knows what is in the mind of God concerning each individual except the spirit of God-1 Cor. 2:11
