TOPIC: THE BENEFIT OF GIVING – PART 4
BIBLE TEXT: 2 CORINTHIANS 9:8
And God is able to give you more than you need so that you will always have all you need for yourselves and more than enough for every good cause – 2 Corinthians 9:8 GNB
What you need is available in the hand of someone else but God will only release what you need when you release what others need. God is not limited is supplying all our needs but we held him down by our refusal to obey his laid down principles of divine supply. God is not in the business of making people poor, devil is the grandmaster of poverty. People with a poverty mentality don’t like to hear that Christians were designed spiritually to be rich but let’s see the verse.
In 2 Corinthians 8:9 GNB, the Bible says:
You know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ; rich as he was, he made himself poor for your sake, in order to make you rich by means of his poverty.
Jesus was rich but became poor willfully as a man on earth during his sojourning here so that he can make us rich. Praise God!!! He made us rich thought the gospel. Gospel is the light that sets every man from the curses of the law. Poverty is a curse and the curse is broken in Christ Jesus now. You don’t have to be poor if you know the truth in God’s word. Ignorance is one of the reasons for people’s poverty.
Although, it is possible for a minister of the gospel to make himself or herself poor for the sake of others. Sometimes people leave their promising job, well-paid salary, wealth, and glorious empire to go on a missionary journey to witness to souls in remote villages, this is an act of sacrifice to make others rich. Paul the apostle was an example and gave us a scripture in that light.
In 2 Corinthians 6:10 GNB, Paul explained;
although saddened, we are always glad; WE SEEM POOR, BUT WE MAKE MANY PEOPLE RICH; we seem to have nothing, yet we really possess everything.
Beloved, why does God wants us rich? ….
so that you will always have all you need FOR YOURSELVES and more than enough FOR EVERY GOOD CAUSE – 2 Corinthians 9:8 GNB
There are two basics reasons; to have your need met and not be a borrower yourself and also so that you can support every good cause. For example, you are blessed to support the poor, the missionary, mission field, church building projects, the sick, the widow, the orphans, etc. You may not have the ability to do everything but you can your best and others will take it from there. If our wealth doesn’t meet any need, it is a waste that we are blessed by God.
May God open our eyes of understanding
