TOPIC: GIVING: YOUR ATTITUDE DETERMINES YOUR HARVEST – PART 1
BIBLE: 2 CORINTHIANS 9:7
Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
There are genuine believers who give but couldn’t see the effect of their giving in their finances. This is because the harvest of their seed sowed is destroyed by their words or they give with the wrong mindset. Our attitude while giving could impact our harvest. The Bible encourages us to give as we have purposed in our heart. Why? What you give from the heart is what is accepted by God. You see, you can give for many reasons but what you give from your heart with the motive of honoring the Lord and obeying his word with your substance is what God accepts.
Beloved, giving is honoring God. If God deserves honor, you will give him your offering and tithe with joyfulness. If you believe God has been faithful to you, giving Thanksgiving offering will be motivating to you. When you give with sadness in your impression, it shows you don’t trust God to bless you in return and further shows you don’t think he deserves what you give to him.
Listen to Proverbs 3:9;
*Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the first fruits of all, thine increase:*
Beloved, every promotion is from God. You can choose to honor him with your first fruit. This is not to be done by compulsion but willingly. When we grow to understand that God doesn’t owe any man, our faith will rise to give. There is nothing you give to God wholeheartedly that God will not bless mightily. Faith is the main ingredient in giving. You have to trust God in faith that he will open the doors of blessings to you when you obey him in your giving. Every father loves to be honored. If you honor your father in heaven secretly with your offering and seed of faith, he will honor you openly.
Finally, in 1 Corinthians 13:3, we learned that you can give all you have and still not be profited because God doesn’t bless what you give when the motive for giving is wrong. The Bible put it this way:
*And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not to love, it profiteth me nothing.* – 1 Cor. 13:3.
God gave us his only begotten son because he loved us. Love should be the reason for our giving. If you give for the show, you have already received your reward by the praise of men. Learn to give to please God not to seek validation, respect, and gain the praise of men. Give because of love alone.
