TOPIC: UNDERSTANDING THE GIFT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS – PART 1

Bible Text: Romans 5:12

Wherefore, as by one man (ADAM) sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

First Adam committed a sin and because of that, his sins were passed to all human race. The sin we confess before salvation is not the act we did but the nature we inherited. All men naturally became a sinner because Adam transgressed. Why? Because when he committed the sin, we were all in his loins. All the parts of Adam became a sinner including the sperm that would lead to the birth of the human race. He made SIN to be imputed/credited to my account when I knew nothing about his sins. This is why the Bible says all have sinned no matter how holy you think you are before salvation, you are naturally a sinner from birth – Romans 3:23

Today, whether you have sinned before or not, you’re spiritually dead because of Adam’s sin

However, the Second Adam (Jesus) came in righteousness and made RIGHTEOUSNESS to be imputed/credited into my account without my works -Rom.5:17, 2 Cor.5:21.

Romans 5:18

*Therefore as by the offense of one (ADAM) judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one (JESUS) THE FREE GIFT came upon all men unto JUSTIFICATION of life.*

Do you notice the verse above that says “all men became sinner because Adam sinned and all men naturally become righteous become the second Adam which is Jesus became righteous”. Notice the bible says this righteousness is a FREE GIFT that cane upon all men (believers) unto their justification (declare innocent, just, guilt free and acquitted in the court of heaven)

This righteousness by second Adam is based on my faith in Christ and nothing. I cannot earn it by my deeds. It is a gift, not a reward. Jesus gave me his righteousness when I became saved as he took my sins. I surrendered my sin at his feet and took his righteousness instead. This is why a Christian can boldly stand before God in Jesus name without fear or guilt.

Religious folks want me to accept that I am a sinner because all have sinned through Adam’s transgression but they are offended that I claim to have received the gift of righteousness without works through Christ Jesus.

At salvation, we received the gift of eternal life and the gift of righteousness, through Jesus obedience -Rom.5:19

Romans 5:17,19
[17]For if by one man’s offense death reigned by one; MUCH MORE THEY WHICH RECEIVE ABUNDANCE OF GRACE AND OF THE GIFT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS SHALL REIGN IN LIFE BY ONE, JESUS CHRIST.)
[19]For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, SO BY THE OBEDIENCE OF ONE SHALL MANY BE MADE RIGHTEOUS.

Notice, It’s “the” gift. That is a definite article. There is no other righteousness of God apart from the one we received by faith.

If I did nothing to be called a sinner,

I need not to do anything to be made righteous but to accept Jesus as my savior.

I became sinner without offense and also became righteous without works. This is the gospel.

First Adam brought sin to my account without my effort and the second Adam brought the GIFT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS to my account without my works.

A Christian is righteous through faith and acts righteousness by obedience to the Word of God and because he has the righteousness of God already in him.

Note: It’s only a man with the gift of righteousness that can do righteous works. Until you are saved, your works are unrighteous.

Praise God

I am made righteous-Rom.5:19
Jesus is my righteousness- Rom.5:1
I am the righteousness of God in Christ- 2 Cor.5:21
