Topic: Understanding the Spirit Of Fear And How To Deal With It

Bible Text: 2 Tim. 1:7

For God Has Not Giving Us The Spirit Of Fear; But Of Power, And Of Love, And Of A Sound Mind.

There is a positive and a negative fear. Positive fear is referential and it’s the personal and humbling surrendering of oneself to the Lordship of Jesus Christ -1 Pet. 2:17 or for our leaders, as seen in Heb.12:18, 28, or, referential fear of wife to their husband and vice versa- 1 Pet.3:2. It is, however, it is important to say that, a leader or husband without knowledge could allow referential fear to be manipulated by the devil.

No man can know true freedom until he is free from the spirit of fear because every form of human bondage is associated with the spirit of fear. At salvation, what we received was the spirit of adoption that qualifies us as the children of God but the devil introduce the spirit of fear so that we would lose our identity and dominion in Christ.

In Romans 8:15, the bible says:

“For ye have not received the *spirit of bondage again to fear*…”

Bondage of any kind has its root in fear. When the devil creates an atmosphere of fear, he gains entrance into people’s life. He uses fear to keep the world and the people under his control through bondage. In contrast, God uses faith to set men free from the fear of the devil. Faith is the opposite of fear in spiritual warfare. The devil thrives where fear dominates and God’s power is released where faith is in action. You are either fear-full or faith-full.

In Heb. 2:15, the Bible says;

“And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage”

You would notice in the verse above that some people because of their fear of death lived all their lives in bondage. This bondage is not physical but spiritual bondage. They are bound from exercising their authority in life because they fear death. Nobody can fear death until they fear the devil.

Last week, I taught along this line and a young man walks up to me after the service and narrated how he has been in bondage to fear. Bondage to fear has nothing to do with age. Both old and young can be in bondage to fear. I once ministered to a baby that was less than two years old but refused to walk. The mother brought her for prayer and I prayed. I saw the mother a few days after and she hasn’t walked yet. Immediately, I observed her, I discerned that the baby is having a spirit of fear in her, I laid her on her chest and command the spirit of fear to come out here in the presence of her mother and pray a short pray thereafter, that was on Friday vigil, by Sunday morning, she was already walking. You see, many don’t believe evil spirit does exist until they are victims. In this series, I will be given the personal experiences of my ministration to those who have been bound by a different kind of spirit.

Tomorrow, I will explain deeper how people allow the spirit of fear into their lives.

Thanks for reading.
