BIBLE TEXT: GEN. 26:3

*Sojourn in this land and I will be with AND I WILL BLESS THEE…*

When the Bible says, a wise man leaves an inheritance for his children’s children (Prov. 13:22), many people assume the bible is talking about houses with fat accounts alone and that is why many are doing the unthinkable to acquire wealth even at the detriment of other people. If you look diligently into the scripture, you will observe that the blessings of God are not limited to financial & material prosperity alone.

Apart from material blessings, one of the richest inheritance the old patriarch left for their children is the blessings of God. They usually proclaim words of blessing on their children and these words determine how their journey in life will be.

The words spoken shaping the course of the event and determines the forces that work with the bearer. Words of blessing make all forces to work together in your favor.

For example, when God wanted to bless Abraham, he didn’t rain rice and beans for Abraham from heaven. No. He proclaimed blessings on Abraham. Intangible blessing is far superior to tangible blessing. That is why wise people goes after intangible blessing from their spiritual and earthly parent while the foolish go after only riches.

You see, many people still don’t understand why Jacob was hell-bent on taking the blessing from his father, unlike Esau who mocked his future. Jacob knew that blessing is more important than goodies. He sorted for that blessing from the womb (Gen. 25:22) knowing fully well that whoever gets the blessing will lead in life. The blessing automatically conferred on the bearer the grace and favor needed to excel above contemporaries.

Look at Isaac blessings proclaimed on Jacob Gen. 27:28-29

*May God give you of the dew of heaven and the fatness of the earth and the plenty of grain and wine.*

*Let peoples serve you, and nations bow down to you. BE THE LORD OVER YOUR BROTHERS, AND MAY YOUR MOTHER’S SONS BOW DOWN TO YOU. Cursed be everyone who curses you, and blessed be everyone who blesses you.*

Beloved, can you see the power of blessing?

That was why Jacobs’ mother ensures that the blessing did not miss the road to Esau. She knew the effect of that blessing on the destiny of both children.

You see, those who don’t value prayers of mostly their earthly & spiritually parent don’t understand this truth.

Why did Esau weep bitterly for missing that blessing?

He knew his destiny has just been shortchanged.

Look at Esau’s bitterness after missing the blessing.

In Gen. 27:37, 38, after Esau asked for just remnant blessing after losing the main blessing. The father responded:

*But Isaac answered Esau: “Look, I HAVE MADE HIM YOUR MASTER AND GIVEN HIM ALL HIS RELATIVES (INCLUDING ESAU) AS SERVANTS………*

*Esau said to his father, “Do you have “ONLY ONE BLESSING, my father? Bless me too, O my father” Then ESAU WEPT ALOUD.*

In HEB.12:17, the Bible put it this way

*For ye know how that afterward when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it CAREFULLY WITH TEARS*

I pray for you this morning that you will not miss the blessing of God in Jesus name.

Many young men and women today prefer to sell their birthright for sexual pleasure and material gains because they are blinded to the realities of the future. They sleep with a guy to get an iPhone in return because they don’t know what they lose by doing that. They never knew they have just exchanged blessing for a lentil of pottage like Esau.

Young men also derive pleasure in selling their future to get sex in return. They call it pleasure but heaven calls it damnation and annihilation of glorious destiny.

Don’t sell the future. Value the blessing
