Good Morning Saints,

Topic: Understanding our adoption into God’s family

Text: Ephesians 1:5

*Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,*

God has predestined us to be his children but predestination doesn’t over rule the free will God has given to us to decide who we chose to follow between Almighty God and the devil. It’s important to note that the adoption is through Christ.

The word adoption has its origin in Roman culture. It is a process whereby the ownership right of a person is transferred to someone else. Through adoption, old relationship is terminated, and the new father became full owner of the child with all legal rights when it involves human being. In Rome, a slave could have the full rights as that of a Roman citizen through adoption. If the owner of the slave adopt the slave as his child, he automatically have equal right like every other children in that home.

Back to our relationship with God, through adoption, believers now have all relationship with kingdom of darkness terminated, they stop being a child of devil, they are no longer related to their old master and have now become the property of their heavenly Father as heirs and joint-heirs with Jesus Christ. They have been translated from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light- Col. 1:13. We have move from under curses to under blessings – Gal. 3:14

Beloved, if you don’t understand what it means to be adopted into God’s family, you will be denied of your right by the devil. Just as it happens in Roman Culture, adoption into God’s family automatically terminates your affiliation and relationship with the devil if you would believe this truth in faith. You are now permanently God’s property. God is the owner of you. You’re being separated from your old family background spiritually. Family curses is terminated. Generational family sickness and diseases can longer come upon you. You’re now an adopted child of God and heirs of God.

Beloved, the greatest evil that can befall a Christian is lost of identity. When you lost your identity in the family of God, you live like slave though you are suppose to be a Prince to the King of Kings.

Beloved, God didn’t just adopt us out of pity or a sense of obligation as our Creator. He saved us because He loved us (John 3:16). It was the good pleasure of his will for us to become adopted sons. We are wanted and accepted by our Father – Eph. 1:6

The Lord did not choose us on our merit neither because we were good sinners, but solely on our acceptance of Christ. You see, we are accepted and adopted by God because we accepted Jesus as our Lord. The plan of God for the redemption of mankind is hidden in Christ before the foundation of the world.

Note carefully, we were not personally chosen by God; Christ was the chosen one, and all those who are “in Christ” partake of His being chosen by His Father. God chooses Christ and for everyone that would come into Christ, they are automatically accepted by God because they came through Christ. This is why every other religion trying to reach God without accepting Jesus are only wasting their time. Nobody can know God without knowing Christ. There is only one way to God and that is Jesus. There is only one way to salvation and it is in the acceptance of the person of Jesus Christ. Any other attempt to be saved outside Christ is devil’s plan. Just as we are the beneficiaries of the covenant between God the Father and His Son, Jesus- so are we chosen because we chose God’s chosen; i.e., Christ.
