TOPIC: THE LORD IS SHEPHERD PART 3

TEXT: PS 23:2b
*He makes me to lie down in green pastures: he leads me beside the “STILL WATERS”*
Beloved, always remember that it’s God that leads to a place of comfort, rest, satisfaction and fulfillment. Learning to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit is therefore a necessity if you must succeed in all areas of life. I have teachings I did on how to train your spirit man to hear from God. You can request for them at no price.
David says in today’s golden text… *He leads me beside the still water*.
What is the implication of this statement?
Firstly, the word *still* in the text is from the Greek word *menûchâh menûchâh* and it is simply interpreted as resting place, comfortable, quiet etc. So David was actually saying that God has led him to his comfortable resting place.
Question 1, how then can we enter into his resting place?
*….he leads me beside the still “water’…….*
Water symbolizes many things in the scripture but in light of this verse, I will try to explain five things David possibly was telling us about how he entered into the resting place.
Water symbolizes :
1. *Eternal life*:John 4:14. No one can enter into God’s rest without Salvation. Salvation is the bedrock of any association & relationship with God.
What is Salvation? – *It means to receive eternal life (life of God) into our spirit.*
What is eternal life? *Knowledge of God and to know Christ Jesus as Lord and Saviour.*
John 17:3 explains that truth:
*And this is ETERNAL LIFE, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent*.
So, when you know God the Father and believe in Christ as your Lord and Saviour, you have eternal life.
Who is the eternal life? – *Jesus.*
1 John 1:2 shows it clearly
*(For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you “that eternal life”, which “was with the Father, and was manifested unto us”;)*
1. Do you notice *that eternal life*” (talking about Jesus)?
2. Do you also notice *”which was with the father”*? You should understand by now that “eternal life” is a person because he was with the father. John 1:1 put it this way .. *.”the word was with God…* They were both talking about same person who is called eternal life here in 1 John.
3. Do you also noticed *was manifested unto us*? -That was Jesus
1 John 3:8 says:
*…… For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.*
Eternal life therefore means the life of God we receive on earth (Christ into our heart) which transcends with us to eternity and live together with God forever and ever.
Now listen, you will *NOT* receive eternal life in heaven. It is what you receive on earth when you receive the person of Christ into your life as Lord and Saviour. You see, you already have eternal life if you’re genuinely born again. That means, you should have assurance of being with God forever and ever after death. This is the greatest fact of the gospel.
*How do you get eternal life?*
You can never work for it because it’s a gift. You don’t work to earn a gift. You don’t have input in it but to have faith in him that gives it.
Romans. 6:23 completes the task when it says:
a. *For the wages of sin is death*;
b. *but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.*
Look closely, majority of we preachers dwell on (a) and preach only *condemnation* but when we read part (b), it talks about the gift of *eternal life* which is a means to reconciliation.
Look closely again, it’s called “the gift” NOT “a gift”. The word “the” is a definite article which shows there is only one gift of eternal life. No other way to the gift, it’s one Gift and cannot be earned by good works but faith in Christ Jesus.
Note: Good works will never earn you eternal life but when you receive eternal life, you naturally produce good works.
In Hebrews. 4:11, the Bible says:
*Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest,…*.
The rest here is simply salvation and revelational knowledge of what salvation has earned us in Christ Jesus..
