Topic: I am a redeemed Redeemed from Curses – Part 2
By: Isaac Oluwaseun Agbenla
Our Golden text is Gal.3:13-14
*Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the Law, being made a curse for us: …… That the BLESSING of ABRAHAM might come UPON THE GENTILES through Jesus Christ*.
Another reason why Jesus became a curse for us was *so that the blessing of Abraham can come upon the gentiles*.
Who are the gentiles? Unbelievers are called Gentiles in the scripture but Immediately we surrender our heart to Christ in faith, we cease to be Gentiles but now heir and joint-heirs with Christ (Rom. 8:17. We are now eligible for the blessings God pronounced on Abraham because we believe in Christ Jesus as our Lord and savior – Gal. 3:13-14
Listen, after salvation, you ought to be more conscious of a blessing than curses. Think like someone who has just been delivered from the power of darkness and translated into the kingdom of his dear son -Jesus Christ (Col. 1:13). I have personally observed that when people aren’t doing fine in any areas of life, some people just assume it is Satan related problem. There are times that people only need to be more hardworking and committed to learning in other for them to enjoy financial breakthrough. But today, some Pastors have made the people think that any delay in marriage, financial challenges, etc are tantamount to curses from somewhere. This can’t be true always.
Sometimes we need to do more by teaching people to develop their character and take responsibility for their lives. There are many idle, lazy and uncreative people in our churches today, they must learn a skill, take menial jobs, sacrifice their time of pleasure for knowledge and so on to experience a breakthrough. God is not a magician and he won’t bless anyone that is not prudent.
Sometimes, the wrong spirit could hinder people’s progress but ought not to be a Christian except such is a spiritual babe or spiritually bankrupt.
We must, therefore, be led to pray base on the leading of the Holy Spirit. Sometimes it is better to minister to such people alone than to generalized the whole issue.
You see the challenges area of the town’s natural phenomena. No matter how fervent you pray, the test will come. *Your prayer will see you through the test but it won’t stop you from being tested*. Good prayer life will strengthen your inner man and fortify you against every dart of the wicked but test will surely come. This is just the reality. Don’t assume your time of test is extremely evil because there is always a good side to it.
Listen, people will say different things about your slow progress or even alleged that you’re suffering because of your sins like they accused Job, stay faithful with your head up. It’s better to follow God slowly and get it right than to run ahead of God in life and go astray.
Victory is sweet but it is proceeded by a war. There is also no champion without a fight. You will overcome everything you faced in life if you keep a good attitude towards God and continue steadfastly in the truth. God will test you before major breakthroughs. He will train you through what you suffer. The time of training is not always full of laughter but it prepares you for the journey ahead. If you don’t allow God to train you this way, you will fall easily when you begin to climb.
Most times, what you are passing through is just the trial of faith and nothing more. God prepares us using different ways, some are prepared in the wilderness, some through what they pass through while some at the back of the city in a place of loneliness. You must ensure that you’re walking in God’s perfect will for your life otherwise whatever you suffer will be self-inflicted.
In 1 pet. 3:9b, the bible complete the verse this way:
*…..knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should INHERIT A BLESSING*
From this verse, is your inheritance a blessing or a curse? The Bible says you’re to inherit blessings not curses. Do you know what it means to inherit? Something is totally given to you forever. When you inherit your father’s property, it’s not temporarily but permanently. That’s it. Blessing is yours forever not curses. It will be unwise then to think in the opposite direction.
Just meditate on verses like this until you are able to assimilate, apprehend & appreciate the finished work of Christ.
Meditate on this profound truth in Num.23:8 before we consider it tomorrow.
Numbers 23:8 : *how can I curse those whom God has not cursed? How can I denounce those whom God has not denounced?*
