*Topic: Secrets of victorious Christian living Part 3*
By: Isaac Oluwaseun Agbenla
*_Golden Text: Gal.2:20_*
*_I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the son of God, who love me, and gave himself for me_*
Let’s continue from Part 2….
In Rom. 6:14, the Bible says, for sin shall no longer have dominion over you.
Listen folks, *_the same grace you need to overcome the sin of stealing or carry gun is the same grace you need to overcome sin of fornication, adultery, murder etc_*
Note this: *After salvation, sin becomes a CHOICE* That is what the verse is saying. Sin no longer have dominion over you after salvation. You are not dominated by sinful nature again. You are dead to sin at salvation. Sin cannot gratify over your body desires. You can condemn sin in the flesh like Jesus did. You can say NO to sin after salvation. You have the inner strength to tell the devil I am not yielding to your carnal promptness.
Some student argued this with me years ago while preaching to the class during my NYSC days. They said *”Pastor Corper, it’s impossible to stay without sexual sin because our body cannot take it*. I replied by saying, you commit fornication because you have idea of the pleasure but to blind to see the consequences. Then I asked, if you are already naked & romancing a lady and as you are about to enter her, she tells you she is HIV+, even though you body is in the mood & ready to have sex badly, will you go ahead & have sex with her or withdraw for the sake of your destiny that is about to be ruined ? All heads down.
Sin is a choice for a believer. When you know the worth of you are about to loose by doing it, you will talk to you senses to calm down. No matter how thirsty you are, can you drink acid? It’s called liquid like water but the fear of death won’t allow you. If you know sin can cut off your expectations in life, you will run from it without a preacher.
You see, we are living in the newness of life because the nature of sin has been destroyed during crucifixion. Does that mean we are already perfect? No. We are striving towards that. Does it mean I will not make mistake again? No. You can but ought not to dwell in it. *This is what Jesus has done for us not what we achieve through our own righteousness*.
Now listen, I am not calling willfully committed act a mistake. Before you call the act mistake, it must be that you have no prior knowledge that it’s going to happen or the way it happens. Even if you have willfully done such before, just repent and bear the consequences of your action.
Before I finally had encounter that changed my life and destiny forever with Jesus, I have struggled with sin. I have never wished to be a sinner since I knew sin as a child. I fought it through the years. I love to live holy but am incapacitated to my own carnal mind influenced by environment & friends. Guess what, I fell many times and went for alter calls countless times. I confess my sins sometimes uncountable times in a day.
I remember when I usually go out for alter call almost every single day during conventions. I usually think I could live a justified life by my own determination and strength. I never knew the race is not to the swift not the battle to the strong. My abilities failed me consistently because I never knew there is God’s ability that can strengthen my disabilities. I will try to live Holy but it only last for weeks before I return back to my vomit. But one day, I had encounter with Jesus and everything turned around.
That day, I realised how impossible it’s for me trust my own ability. I stopped trusting my own ability to change my stony heart by myself. I cried to God for help to be able to live right, please him and follow him according to his word. My prayer was simple; *God I can’t do this by myself. I have tried and failed on several occasions. If you don’t help me I will not make it. I need your ability to overcome my weaknesses*. Suddenly, something changed in my heart. I knew my heart has been changed & I have received the heart of flesh instead of the stony heart. The yoke was broken immediately I stopped trying myself but looked up to him for divine ability.
You see, while studying & meditating yesterday afternoon, I saw this verse but never knew God showed for the purpose of this writeup. Immediately God called Saul to be King, God changed his heart.
In Sam. 10:9, the Bible says:
*And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel (that was after Samuel had confirmed him to be the first King of Israel), God gave him ANOTHER HEART:….*
Another reference is Ezekiel 36:26 which says:
*A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.*
Praise God. I was already a worker before I had that liberation encounter. There are many in Churches today who are living same life I lived before that encounter. You can cry to God this morning and he will help you.
You see, *Jesus came to take away our sins. It therefore means if you continue to dwell in sin, you have not met him*.
Paul was saying in the verse that his ability to live a live in the flesh without condemnation is as a result of Him who is dwelling in him. The Christian life is not just hard to live; *it’s impossible to live in our human strength*. The only way to walk in victory is to let Christ live through us.
