Today’s devotional 22/12/18 Liberty or Bondage Part 1 By Isaac O. Agbenla Bible: Galatians 5:1

TOPIC: *LIBERTY OR BONDAGE? -PART 1*

*BIBLE: GALATIANS 5:1*

*STAND fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage*

*Message:*

Total and absolute freedom from curses, failures, poverty, sicknesses, and diseases through salvation is one of the hardest topics to preach among many Christians most especially in Africa. Every preacher that lay emphasis on this truth is termed heretic because of so many practices of demonic activities. The reasons are not far fetch looking at the way bondage and captivity messages have become Sunday to Sunday rhythm in our Church services.

Notice from our golden text, the Bible says “STAND FAST”.

What is the implication of this statement?

*It was emphasized because God knows some will come to preach you into bondage and guilt even after God had forgiven you of all your past.*

If you are a Christian and you are doubting your salvation or not sure of making heaven, you are still in bondage to the lies of the devil I am talking about or you’re still living in sin wilfully. If you have confessed your sin and forsake them at salvation, God can’t remember them or hold it against you from getting to heaven. If God used it against you, he will be unjust because it negates his promise in 1 John 1:7-9. No sin committed before salvation can stop you from having eternal rest once you are genuinely saved. And those committed after must be confessed and repented of.

Many Christians have been taught to think of themselves as less worthy of heaven compare to other apostles of Jesus and some religious leaders.

Hear this, *I am boldly saying by reason of my Liberty in Christ that I am going to heaven after death* if you cannot confess it, something needs to be checked in your life. You see, to confess that statement from the mouth with conviction in your heart is what guarantees your victory over the doubt of making it to heaven which enemies have created in you through fear.

Let us see the scriptural stand on this matter.

*Can a Christian be sure he is ready for heaven?*

Answer: *Yes*

1st Reference: *2 Timothy 4:7* says

7 *I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith*

8. *Henceforth THERE IS LAID UP FOR ME CROWN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, BUT UNTO ALL THEM ALSO THAT LOVE HIS APPEARING*

From the verses, we see Paul’s confidence while affirming his readiness for his glorious home. He confidently said his crown is waiting for him.

You see, many people will begin to say but that is Paul. Listen, Paul was a wicked man before salvation and even a murderer(Acts 9). He took counsel to go and arrest, imprisoned, or likely kill Christians before he encountered Jesus. He was saved by the same grace that saved us.

Furthermore, we read, BUT UNTO THEM ALSO… He said himself that he is not the only one that is qualified for the crown but all Christians. Everyone that earnestly desires the coming of Christ after salvation can confidently boost of the eternal home.

2nd reference: Look at Peter’s statement in 2 Peter 1:14-15;

*Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle(die), even as our Lord Jesus Christ has shown me*

Here Peter was talking about death with excitement not panicking. They had a good understanding of what salvation offers them. They know Jesus’ words will not fail concerning his promise-John 14:1-3.

In Rom.8:16, the Bible says,

*The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit, that we are children of God*.

Note first that Spirit in the above verse is Holy Spirit and the second with the small letter is our own spirit. Holy Spirit will confirm your salvation to your own spirit daily not with Loud voice but inner witness or intuition that you are indeed a child of God. If you don’t have this assurance, you are really not born again.
