Topic: When God is Silent Part 4
Text: Isaiah 55:6-8
By: Isaac O. Agbenla
We are still considering reasons why God could be silent when he is called upon. This morning we shall consider disobedience and refusal to take correction as likely cause.
In Prov. 1:24-29, the Bible says:
24. Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretch out my hand but you pay no attention.
25. You ignore my advice and rejected the correction I offered.
26. So I will laugh when you are in trouble! I will mock you when disaster overtakes you
28. When you cry for help,, I will not answer. Though they anxiously search for me, they will not find me
29. For they hated knowledge and chose not to fear the Lord.
If you read above text, it is clear that God could be far or unreachable when men chooses to dishonour him and refuse his counsel. God highlighted the offenses of those who may not find him when they call. It includes those who mock God. Many people would say I have never mocked God because I never mocked his church or his prophet. But mockery starts with negligence and disobedience to little instruction God gives.
If you don’t honour God with your life daily, it is mockery. When the Bible tells you to do something and you intentionally chose to do otherwise, it is mockery. To mock God means to do what he asks us not to do because by so doing, we show we don’t care about how he feels.
God says again, I am reaching out to you but you paid no attention. Is God calling you out of sin but you refuse to surrender all to him? Many of us will not yield to godly counsel until we hit the rock and are battered.
Don’t ignore the warnings of God so that he will not turn you down in the day of troubles. In Verse 25, God says “You ignore my advice”. When the Bible says “don’t commit adultery or fornication”, it is not for God’s benefits but for our own. God doesn’t need any virgin in heaven for wife. All the advice in the word of God is for our own benefits.
God continues “you ignore my advice and rejected my correction”. Has God been correcting you over a particular bad habit? it is time to change, otherwise, God may be silent when you call upon him.
For example, I have discussed with ladies and gentlemen who still want to go in their own way, though there were enough signals that the decision they are about taking is not God’s will. Many people will say, I will use prayer to change it. This kind of belief is a product of many false prophets who thinks they can change the perfect will of God through prayers. These fake prophets will tell their victims; the person you brought his or her name is not good because of danger ahead but we can sacrifice and pray on mountain to avert the future. These gullible lazy Christians usually ended up losing their precious hard earned money to the dubious act of this god of men parading themselves as agent of light. This is one of the major reasons why people call on God in some turbulence marriage, businesses etc and God will remain silent. It is because they rejected God’s counsel but follow that of a fake prophet and their flesh dictates.
You see, if God says don’t be unequally yoke with unbelievers. That is, don’t go into relationship with unbelievers and you willfully test the integrity of God by mocking the statement, you may even do it in Church and God is present but you have actually told God that you don’t need him in your marital life.
Listen, God can be your Saviour and yet not be your Lord. There is different between the two. Saviour means the one who saves from sin but Lord Means someone you surrender yourself under his authority and leadership. Many Christians today believe in Jesus, they will go to Church and sing to God but they will never keep the simplest of his instruction and wonder why God is silent in crucial times in their lives.
Beloved, what shall we say of men and women who are workers and ministers but still uses their body as instrument of unrighteousness through fornication, adultery, falsification of figures and embezzlement.
Brethren, in John 14:15, the Bible says:
“If ye love me, ye will keep my commandment”
We can claim to love God and not keep his commandment. Many people only remember God in the days of trouble. They will reject his commandment when all is well with them but will run to him when devil strikes and wonder why God is silent. Don’t be deceived, whatsoever a man sows, that he shall also reap.
In Prov. 1:26, God then says: Because you have done the above, so I will laugh when you are in trouble, I will mock you when your disasters overtakes you.
May this never be our portion in Jesus name. Don’t call God a fool by your negligence. It’s disrespectful to God to know what is written as sin and yet continue to live in it. If you mock God’s word, God will mock you by his silence in time of trouble the Bible says.
In verse 28, Bible says when they cry for help, God will not answer and said even if they search for him, he will not be found because he will hide his face from them.
Have you been crying for help without reply? Have you been searching for God’s face without any shadow that he is near? This is time to retrace your step and settle it with God once and for all. You need to start afresh with God. You may need to rededicate your life to him and ask for his grace never to fail him again.
