Ways of hearing from God Part 2

Ways of hearing from God Part 2

Bible: Prov. 20:27

The spirit of man is the candle of the lord, searching all the inward parts of the belly

Yesterday, we established the fact that God wants to speak to us as his children & doesn’t want to bypass us to reveal our personal life issues to anyone except we are spiritually insensitive, lazy, bankrupt or cumbered with activities that hinders our ability to listen to his leading.

This morning, let us consider the relevance of spiritual growth to hearing from God.
Every believer can hear God right from the first day they accepted Jesus.

At salvation, God gives us new spirit within us (Ezekiel. 36:26). It is through the new spirit he gives to us that he speaks to us. God doesn’t speak to your soul or flesh. God is a spirit, so he can only reach you through your regenerated spirit you receive at salvation (John 4:23-24). This is why to hear from God, you must have the spirit of God in your own spirit man. This is only possible by salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. The relationship or communication between man and God is spiritual because both are spirit beings.

Note: You are a spirit, which has a soul and lives in the body.

John 3:6 says:

That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Most times, people miss the voice of God because of lack of knowledge along this line of teaching or lack of faith. I will give good example from the scripture.

In 1 Samuel 3:1-10, Samuel was already ministering before Eli but he has not learnt anything about hearing from God (Lack of knowledge). There are many people who don’t even know they can hear from God.

You see, every pastor that makes himself/herself the only access to God is not worthy to have you under his leadership. I would rather teach my members how to hear from God once in a month than allowing them to depend on me for everything God has to say about their lives. With this teaching, majority of them have had victory in their lives without my supervision. That’s growth.

When God called Samuel for the first time, he ran to Eli thinking Eli called him.

Beloved, you will miss God as you learn to listen. Sometimes you would have done the wrong thing before you remember a voice spoke to you not to do it.

Sometimes he will speak to you as he did to Samuel but you may not even discern it. That’s how to learn. When you notice your disobedience to that inner voice once and you amend and obey the next time, you will gradually grow as time goes on.

Have you wondered why you took steps that you have inner conviction that it isn’t right? Many people will say “but something is telling me not to do it”. It’s your spirit man that is trying to guide you at that time not “something”. This is what our golden verse is saying. God will enlighten you through your spirit. It’s the candle that gives light to every step you’re taking. If you neglect it, you may regret it

You see, if you have miss the voice of God in such manners many times, you are not alone.

It takes time for every baby to fully understand or recognize the voice of their mother. The more they hear from day to day, the more they recognize it. Small children often turn to the side where their mother speaks if they are carried by another person.

You see, you will grow along the line until you fully comprehend.

God called Samuel the second time, he ran again to Eli. God called the third time and he repeated same thing. But Eli being knowledgeable in the areas of hearing from God, told Samuel to go lie down and reply himself when God calls again.

In verse 8, the Bible says:

And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child.

Can you see that Samuel needed a mature Servant of God to teach him how to hear from God by himself? Nobody can hear for you like yourself. Follow those who will teach you how to have a personal relationship with God, not those who want you to depend on them for God’s direction always.

In verse 9, the Bible says:

Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he calls thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

[10] And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.

Do you see why knowledge is powerful? Samuel would have continued to miss God if not for the right knowledge he got from Eli. This series was birthed again because of a young man’s request for my study on the subject. Don’t ignore the knowledge.
